In a land far, far away
a.k.a. Sweet Home Alabama
Every time I come down here, I realize more and more how not of this world they call Alabama is not my home. I am disenchanted.
I particularly enjoy getting into debates with my family members about politics. Is it wrong to say things like "We can debate the existence of reality..." just to get a knee-jerk reaction?
I feel like I don't stand up for myself enough, though. Like how my Alabama-bound brother says that I think I'm superior than him. And to that I should say, "Of course I think I'm superior -- I'm white, upperclass and highly educated. You should jump on the bandwagon, you're a man!"
And then there's the fact that I've heard so much conservative propaganda since I've been home. There is actually a commercial (for a car dealership, for God's sake!) with the American Flag waving and a voice-over of Bush's war proclamation saying, "We support Pres. Bush and our armed forces overseas." (And then there was the scandal over Adrien Brody's kiss and Michael Moore's speech at the Academy Awards, but I won't get into that.) I mean seriously, though, I agree in being patriotic and appreciating what you're blessed with, but that doesn't mean stifling your right to free speech just to go along with some theocratic, crusade-esque regime led by the Dubya.
So, I'm totally ADD and losing my train of thought, but that's for the best because my train of thought is rampant ranting.
On a random note, I'm watching Leno, and Wanda Sykes is on. She's frickin' hilarious... Quotable quotes --
"Who do I gotta rape in this town to get an Oscar?" (being Roman Polanski)
"It's Halle Berry's fault. Ever since she did Monster's Ball, the white men think they can all have their way with her." (On the infamous Adrien Brody-Halle Berry smooch)
"I've never seen an audience turn on anyone so fast since Milli Vanilli. He didn't get into any of the after parties. I saw him celebrating at Denny's -- they were seating black people before him!" (On Michael Moore)
"I'm worried about Tom Brokawy kickin' my ass. He gets good numbers." (On the war being the competition for her new TV show)
"March Madness? Who wants to watch a buncha college players who weren't good enough to go to the pros?"
