Today was a good day

... in the words of some rapper...

First day of work: only went for about two hours and ran an errand, all while drooling over the new cover of PAPER (my magazine, of course!) with Adrien Brody on it. Okay, I admit this drooling is a direct result of Katie Curler and Mary Montgomery fancying him in Paris, but I steal crushes without remorse. Next up, going to see The Pianist -- AB & Roman Polanski all in one very depressing piece of WWII homage (that's so not the right word...) = looovely... incandescent, even...

One of the most delightful parts of my job -- and one of the vast differences between Women Working 2000 is that PAPER has several interns (almost all of which are from Bennington College in Bennington, VT, shockingly enough). I even got to run an errand with two of them (one of which, of course was a gay fella from SanFran). Then he, the other intern and I went to the Museum of Sex and looked at looks of scandalous (not to mention titillating) images. What a great first bonding experience.

Also, a lesson to all you blog-readers: The greatest gifts come in the most unexpected places. I've been looking for the right pair of black shoes since before I went to England since my everyone-and-their-mother-has-them Steve Maddens are definitely worse for the wear... I even went so far as to buy another (pretty expensive) pair of Steve Maddens that have since given me blisters on the back of my ankles. And what do I find tonight for $5 at the Big K? The perfect pair of shoes! (Not to be confused with the perfect cheer.) Crazy world it is, crazy-crazy, I tell ya.

And before I came to dedicate much of my 47.3 minutes of internet time to the blog, I went to the Virgin Megastore and spent entirely too much money. But I was very pleasantly surprised to find the 3rd Season of Buffy, which I immediately swooped down upon and plopped down some of my "hard-earned" grant money (ha ha ha). Also of exciting news to former early-nineties teen-angsters is the release of the entire series of My So-Called Life on DVD. I bought that too... It was a hefty bill, but Angela, Jordan, Brain, Rayanne, Ricky and the ubiquitous Tino are definitely worth it. Also picked up Mannequin for $10! (Like I said, I spent a lot of money, but some people -- read: my parents -- will be glad to know that it was MY money, not theirs that I was spending. Plus, I've gotta spend while I can 'cause come February and come Vermont, there won't be many opportunities. (And think of all that money that I saved by getting the perfect shoes for only $5...)

So kiddies, my mind is all a-buzz and a-flutter, and I have run out of things to say, but I wanted to bring you joyous tidings of my first day on the job and let you all (once again) know that I'm alive. I'm even taking dancing class (3 this weekend that still bring much grief to my quads)!

Kisses, I'm out...
