Happy February!
Well, children, I am officially done with my internship! Let's let out a collective 'WAHOO' for that one! And yesterday was an appropriate send-off as my boss was being a crazed fiend, it was raining, and I had to haul my lazy ass all around Soho returning designer clothes -- seriously, who needs 8 bags from Adidas?!
Last night, I went to see Blind Spot, the movie about Hitler's secretary. It was a long documentary, all interview and completely in German (which surprisingly I hadn't considered -- I'm such a narrow-minded American!). Needless to say, it was pretty dour, but I got to learn some stuff about Hitler that I never imagined knowing. For example, his dog was named Blondie -- figures... To erase the bleak picture given to us by the documentary, Tony & I went to see some of his friends downtown and enjoyed a variety of malted beverages -- mmmmmm, Smirnoff Ice...
Since it was a late night, today was almost entirely wasted, but I did get to see The Guru, a movie I've been hearing about since I was in England. It was delightful, and I respect Heather Graham and Bobby Cannavale on a new level now. People even clapped in the end -- you don't get that much at the movies, but somehow New Yorkers just love their movies enough to express it out loud on occasion.
So here's my grand pronouncement: India is gonna hit in a big way. Bollywood is the new 'it'. After seeing flashes in Ghost World, replication in Moulin Rouge, Andrew Lloyd Webber even taking it on with Bombay Dreams in London and now this, it's undeniable. Look for the next Indian (though not Bollywood) inspired movie to come to America: Bend It Like Beckham. I saw it in England and perhaps will see it again -- thoroughly charming.
So, tomorrow (Sunday) and the next day, I have the NYC all to myself, and then mom drops on Tuesday. Though I'm excited to get back to Vermont, I'm starting to get nostalgic (ain't that always the way?). I even thought about how I was going to miss my humble abode at the Webster today when I was walking back from the shower. Craziness.
I'll also miss my fellow intern friends, but I will have the chance to see most of them when they get back to Vermont. I definitely am ready to move on to bigger -- and hopefully PAID -- internships this summer. After a long stretch in the Maple Syrup state I'll be ready to come back and take a bite outta the Big Apple again. Mmmmm... food metaphors...
In just a few days, my friends, I'll have the internet 24 hours a day up and running, so for all of you that have been deprived of me, it's been almost a month, what can a few days do? Arrivederci!
